Ammon Carver

Born and raised in Utah and now residing in New York City, Matrix Artistic Director Ammon Carver combines the very best of Middle American values, taste and responsibility with "big city" talent and style. The polished and personable Carver is fast becoming one of the key spokespeople for the Matrix brand, connecting with hairdressers and consumers alike in print, online and broadcast campaigns.

Carver was "discovered" by Matrix in a Salt Lake City salon and invited to join the education team. He started as an Associate Design Team Member, and after just a year, he was promoted to the Design Team, conducting shows and classes nationwide. Two years later, he was asked to travel to New York for a Matrix Trend collection photo shoot, and he never looked back.

Carver moved to New York and, in addition to his ongoing work with Matrix, joined the world-renowned Warren-Tricomi Salon. He quickly built a loyal clientele, which included celebrities like Leighton Meester, Maggie Grace, Katie Lee Joel, Bruce and Patty Springsteen, Molly Simms, Parker Posey and Kate Beckinsale. In 2009, he entered the North American Hairstyling Awards and was named as a finalist in the Contemporary Classic category; in 2010, he entered two categories and was chosen as a finalist in both the Contemporary Classic and Editorial Stylist categories. He signed with an agent and is frequently booked for photo shoots, fashion shows and commercials. His work has appeared in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Dazed and Confused, Kee and Lucky and his Fashion Week clients include Ralph Lauren, Nautica and Van Cleef and Arpels. He was featured in the Bravo reality series Salon Diaries, and this year, he was tapped as the on-camera spokesperson for two Matrix commercials and has joined the team at New York's prestigious Mizu Salon.

Get to Know Ammon Carver:

Proudest Professional Moments:
"Placing as a NAHA finalist-they are the 'Oscars' of hair! Being invited to be a Matrix Artistic Director-it really is the next tier of growth. And I was so honored to represent Matrix in commercials for Biolage and against diversion. It was an opportunity to speak to and about hairdressers from my heart."

What Inspires Him:
"I surround myself with people who inspire me. I love hanging out and brainstorming with (Matrix Artistic Directors) Nick Stenson and Daniel Roldan. We collaborate and bounce ideas around. And at Warren Tricomi and now at Mizu, I work with such incredible hairdressers-I always try to be a sponge and learn from everyone."

Mentors and Role Models:
"(Matrix Artistic Director) Nicholas French has been a great coach for avant garde and dress-work. He's so creative and every time he does something, it's beautiful. (Matrix Artistic Designer) Dan Csicsai is very specific and structured about achieving results and about presentations, and I really learned a lot from him. I feel I fall somewhere in the middle-the eccentricity of Nick and the structure and discipline of Dan."

Personal Style:

Professional Style:
"A blend of strong, structured lines with an edgy finish."

On His "To-Do" List:
"I'm dying to win a NAHA! And long-term, I would love to make a mark on the industry in the same way that Vidal Sassoon did-to impact the world by changing the way we do hair."
